Hearing Tests

Hearing tests are key to evaluating and improving your hearing. Audiologists at Clifton Springs Hearing Center perform hearing tests to establish the condition of your ears and how well you can hear.

The hearing test takes about a half hour and won't cause you any discomfort. The appointment is easy and convenient for residents of the Canandaigua, Pittsford, Clifton, and Rochester, New York areas. Once our audiologists have the hearing test results, they can determine whether hearing aids or other treatment options are needed.

Look and Listen

Ever try to look in your own ears? It doesn't really work, does it? You need a professional visual examination to assess the health of the outer ear and eardrum. We also look for excessive wax buildup that can impair your hearing .

Next, we perform an Audiogram hearing test in a sound booth. Wearing headphones, you listen to various tones played at different volumes levels. You also listen for spoken words and repeat them back to the audiologist. Another hearing test uses bone conduction to evaluate how well you are processing sound.

Finally, we perform a pressure test to check for problems such as fluid in the middle ear, perforation of the eardrum, or wax blocking the ear canal.

After the Hearing Tests

After these hearing tests, the Audiologist will review the results with you and discuss your hearing history. It’s very helpful to bring a family member or friend to this appointment. A familiar voice is perfect for demonstrating hearing aid and assistive device technology. These individuals can also provide an additional perspective and help you benefit from the consultation.
