What is an Audiologist?

Audiologists are professionals who identify, diagnose and manage disorders of the auditory system. Audiologists provide counselling regarding the social effects of hearing loss and the benefits gained through amplification and/or assistive listening devices. Audiologists have extensive training and skills to evaluate the hearing of adults, infants and children of all ages. Audiologists select, fit and dispense the appropriate amplification system and educate the patient and family members on improving communication capabilities.

Educational requirements mandate a minimum of a masters degree from a credited university, and a least one year post university clinical fellowship. Audiologists are licensed in the particular state they practice. New York State licesensure is conferred by the New York State Department of Education.
